The South Beach Lifestyle Weight Loss Plan And How It Works
May 17, 2008
The South Beach diet is among the most popular ways to lose weight today. It is styled around lifestyle and diet changes that bring healthy weight loss. By avoiding “bad” fats and carbohydrates and eating plenty of “good” ones, dieters can shed weight without sacrificing their health or feeling deprived.
There are three steps in the diet program. During the first phase, dieters avoid all carbohydrates except for vegetables. Although several foods are not allowed, dieters still have a wide range of foods they can eat. The first phase is the strictest phase, but also the quickest since it only goes on for two weeks. Dieters are expected to lose approximately 10 pounds during this period.
In phase two, dieters begin reintroducing the previously restricted carb-rich foods into their meals. Dieters are expected to lose a couple pounds each week while steadily increasing the amount of carbohydrates in their diet. The second phase lasts until dieters achieve their ideal weight.
Phase three is the maintenance phase. Dieters use their strategies from phase two to keep their ideal weight throughout the duration of their lives. If dieters start to gain weight, they can go back to the first phase of the program.
You have likely seen pre-packaged South Beach snacks and meals sold in stores. These foods are handy, but you do not need to spend money on them in order to follow the diet. You just need to follow the various general rules for each phase of the diet.
During the first phase of the diet, you may eat lean cuts of meat, such as fish, chicken, and turkey, eggs, nuts, most vegetables, and a limited amount of dairy. Fruit juices and fruit are not consumed during this phase because they are high in sugar. Also restricted are all carbohydrates, fatty cuts of meat, alcoholic beverages, and some vegetables that are rather high in sugar content, such as beets. The intent of this phase is to ban “bad” carbohydrates from your diet and jumpstart the process of losing weight.
During the second phase, dieters gradually reintroduce whole grains, fruit, and other formerly prohibited foods into their diet. In the process, dieters learn how to adjust their diet strategies to keep a desirable weight. Once this is successfully accomplished, the diet moves into the lifetime phase, in which dieters attempt to maintain the healthy habits that helped them reach their goal weight.
The factor for success with the South Beach diet program is dedication to eating healthy. Although that sounds simple, this diet and other diet plans fail because dieters abandon the diet before the program can start to work. The problems that most men and women have with losing weight often come from deeper problems such as a lack of drive to lose weight, a habit of overeating, or an uncontrollable appetite. The good thing is that all of these problems can be resolved with techniques that are easy to learn from an excellent hypnosis diet CD program.
To treat a lack of motivation, practices from a tool called Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) will give you a powerful urge to stay on track with your weight loss goals.
First, dieters pinpoint precisely what things are most valuable to them, as a person. This is called their “highly valued criteria.” Then, NLP techniques are practiced to make the dieters think that by losing weight, their highly valued criteria will become enhanced. Another option is to make the dieter think that if they do not lose weight, their valued criteria will be placed in jeopardy.
Motivation comes from what we believe in, not from logic! So in the previous example, let us say that the dieter’s most highly valued desire is that the dieter’s children are safe and well. Using an NLP tool called Submodalities, we can lead the dieter into feeling that if he/she fails to lose weight, the children will be condemned to emulating their parent and they will also be fat and unhappy. This belief will provide a strong urge and feeling to stay committed to the diet and take the weight off.
Several NLP techniques can help to lessen or even completely remove the urges and cravings that force one to overeat. This works very well to help dieters stick to the initial and most difficult two weeks of the South Beach diet. Furthermore, helps dieters stick to an exercise program, which will enhance the value of any diet program.
Stress is a factor that frequently drives people to overeat or neglect their well-being, but stress-relief can be provided by both hypnosis and NLP techniques. One such tool is called the NLP Flash. With the Flash, having your unconscious mind use stress-causing thoughts as triggers for positive thoughts eliminates the stress that causes the urge to overeat.
Out-of-control eating habits can also cause people to gain weight. Countless people have seemingly uncontrollable appetites because over time, they have developed a “conditioned response” to eat in certain situations. For example, many of us gorge on junk food in front of the TV even when we aren’t really hungry. The good thing is, NLP and hypnosis both have techniques that can rapidly eliminate these conditioned responses. These techniques create natural appetite suppression without the use of drugs.
By treating the root obstacles that keep dieters from losing weight, NLP and hypnosis has helped countless dieters finally get in the best shape of their lives. When used with the South Beach program, dieters can enjoy easy weight loss and success at reaching their health goals.
